Its because their orginal queens were not present. If you tryed to introduce a queen into a nest with the current queen still residing i there it would have been a diffrent story all together!

In deed, i'm trying it out now myself, i have a colony (Formica cunicularia) where the Queen died a few months ago, the workers are now in hibernation and i added a new queen to the colony, still in a tube. I hope they accept here after hibernation.

Does any1 know if it's possible to let Lasius Niger workers help a Messor Barbarus queen? (I know that L.niger is aggressive so think it won't work)

That would be a very risky experiment Thomie. I doubt it would work.
