wow, very interesting, looking forward to seeing them.
I was talking to a guy who keeps them in hives where you can see them all working, i had a good look, and the queen looks just like the workers, except she just had a little white dot on her abdomen.

hope it all works out ! :D

Bees are great. I would have them if they wouldn´t be such horrible stingers. :? A friend of mine once kept bumble bees. The whole colony grew to a nice size. I can tell you for sure that thir honey tastes way better than the one from bees.

Hello Ant dude , theres no one reason for me wanting to keep them as there are a few . The main thou are they are easy to breed and there is allot more interaction with the colony and the development stages are interesting .They are also quick growing .Eggs take 3 days to hatch and the whole growth stages take about 20 days for workers , 16-17 for queens and 24 for drones, :D. I like the fact that honey bees travel upto 5 miles to fetch nectar and pollen and they always return back to the hive . Its just a sense of pride they can come back and forth. And after all this i have the oppertunity to harvest honey if i wanted .

:D

How do the frames hold the nest. Also, how will you extract the honey.
Your bee project looks facinating btw.

Hi phasmid There is a wax sheet (called foundation to bee keepers )held in place by a wooden frame , The bees draw out this foundation into loads of hexagonal cells , this is where the queen lays her eggs and where the workers store there necter to turn it into honey and where pollen is stored as well. Honey can be extracted in varios ways , you can cut the comb up into sections to produce comb honey and also there are small devices that after decapping the frames you load the frames in. Once the frames are in you spin the handle on the device and the frames spin in a tray , the honey flys out the cells and drips down the device into the bottom where there is a tap that the honey comes out . :D
