Sound.. I didnt think about doing this before but tonight i was reading through the forum and i come across a topic showing pill case plates for ants.. Miszt had told me about this before and it totaly slipped my mind...
Well i had recently got a Messor barbarus queen on her own.. and was a tad worried about her....
BUT... now... ive put a nice pill plate in her test tube.. and she is loving it.. Its got honey, Sugar and some fish flakes. She's loving it

That is in deed on of the best ways to give them sweets. I use this also.
I'm surprised your queen is eating from it. My Messor barbarus don't eat sweets.

be careful what kind of sugar you give her, some can kill ants...as i learned the Hard way

What kind did you give here than ? Never heard of that one before. (not saying it could not happen)
But as i said, most Messor sp. don't like sweets very much.

it was just normal everyday sugar... nothing special.. n wasnt a lot either... more honey than anything else.. and she still seems fine now.. an has ate more of it.

I've been thinking about putting in a live flightless fruitfly in with her.. Would she be able to kill it herself and eat it ?

ofcourse, my messor queens, all 3 of them can kill easily, infact they are more aggressive than the workers when you put food near the Queen.

i put in a moth once and she jumped on it and killed it in 2-3 seconds by just clamping her mandibles near its head ! that was great to watch, like a lion choking a wildabeast when its crushing its wind pipe.....gosh i sound like a right morbid guy.....im not.... lol

(and once i fed A Sweetener to my Apheaonagaster and it killed the queen. but if its pure sugar, no problemo)

Probably she would have no problem killing it, keep an eye on here, if she is not able to catch it, give here a dead one.

WoooHooo I checked on her today and she has laid a few eggs So hopefully soon she is gonna have a few workers
