I know Skippy has a queen of this species (and he has a bit trouble with it) Maybe he can help you.

Good luck.

Hey.
25°C have proven to be working for me and some other keepers. I do offer Honey outside the testtube, which i blocked up with some dry sand, so if she feels like it, the queen can go for a walk and look for food. dont forget to block the tube from all light COMPLETELY, not just the back part or whatever, i see this done wrong a lot of times.
Brood developement is slow, ammount of eggs produced is rather low. My queen arrived with around 5 eggs, now, after 2 weeks passed, there are a few more, and i discovered 2 larvae. Not expecting big changes anytime soon.
First genereation workers are probably going to be rather tiny.

Very nice Necturus, i hope it works out with this one.
Looks like the brood development is a bit like my Ectatomma ruidum queens. ;)

Thanks Jimmy.
You can reduce the temperature during night time if you want to, but i would refrain from going any deeper then 22 or 23°C.
Personally, i consider heating matts to be useless. The direction of the heat is the wrong one, coming from below rather then from above. Also they tend to dry out the substrate very fast, and you will have to rewater the substrate several times daily. Look for more opinions on that topic before you make your decission.

ANY colony needs to be kept in complete darkness! the only time a queen gets to see daylight is during the mating flight! Obviously light during the reproductive stage will trigger a behaviour response and seriously interfere with the normal colony developement. Partial cover will not keep out any light! just like your room isnt dark only because you have 4 walls and a ceiling around it, the window will allow lots of light in.
As i said, its done wrong all the time, and the idea behind it is fairly simple.
Greetings,
Necturus

Be ware, red plastic does not apply for all species most of them can not see through it but some do, so it is best to use black folio ore something.
