Im a little bit read-foul
I only read "The basics of ant keeping" from Antstore. Its not a big book (31 pages) but perfect for a beginner and the first questions.

I have a ,,Journey to the ants" by B. Hölldobler and O. E. Wilson, very very good book! This book presents inteligent world of ants and their life... Here you can read about organisation of leaf cutters, drive ants, ant predators and about a lot of interesting ant species...

Hölldobler is a great one in ant knowledge. So his books should be the same i believe.
Maybe i start reading again in the future?! When you read books about your hobby or fascinating things you read it much faster and/or easier

I have The Ants. It is very good. It's an academic level text. Some people here are questioning the price, but plenty of computer games cost £40 and how long do they last, and what do you learn from them?

Thats not the point. Keep in mind what a normal book costs. All games costs about 40 or 50 €. But i could not remember when i saw a book around 100€. For sure, special books costs a lot, but i dont wanna study ants i only want to know interesting stuff....
So i would say 100€ for a book is to much.

If you go into an academic bookshop you will see lots of books in this price range. The reason is that they are published on very small print runs for a specialised audience, but they take a lot of resources to collect all the data.

Believe me, they are full of 'interesting stuff'.

All games costs about 40 or 50 €.

Yes they do, and what does that tell you about their inherent worth?

I buy both, but I think it's a bit sad that people nowadays are happy to pay high prices for throwaway software but don't like the idea of paying a fair price for knowledge.

@damondeionno: WORD :D You're right ... I don't remember when I bought a book with less than 80 to 150Euro, even standard literature (with higher print run) cost that much. Studying is expensive :-)

Like you said, this book is a steal :D

'The Ants', imo is worth every penny of its £100/€150 price tag, i've wanted a copy myself for a long time, managed to get a few oppertunities to spend a few hours with copies over the years, and wow is all i can say :D
