Since these hobbies usually attract the same sort of crowd, I figured I would how see if there are any other reefers on here . I'm fairly active on the ReefCentral forums (mostly the chemistry forum).

Anyway, I thought I would share some pics of my tank. The full tank shot (3rd pic) is old, but its the only shot I have of the whole tank. Ive since replaced the stand and upgraded the pumps in the display (among other things). This tank is a 29ga (metal halide + T5 HO lighting, 20ga long sump with CSS protein skimmer and photosynthetic refugium, circulated by sump return and closed loop with a SCWD)

I hope that your reef stuff came from a sustainable source reefs are being destroyed on a huuuge scale for the 'pet market'

miszt- Your absolutely right; its a big deal for me too and your not being negative, this is an important issue thats worth bringing up.

The biggest impact is on certain reef fishes, the Bangaii Cardinalfish and Mandarins are some glaring examples. As for my fish, the clownfish was aquacultured by a local breeder and the other two fish (sixline wrasse and yellowtail damsel) are among the most common/least threatened fish in the ocean.

The local fish shop where all my livestock was purchased is very big on coral aquaculture and one of their employees runs massive 10,000ga coral propagation tank. All of the coral in my tank is aquacultured, except for the two Trachyphyllias- I'm not sure of their origin.

There are still a lot of areas in the world that don't regulate coral and fish harvesting or export, which is a shame. If it were up to me, all coral species collected from nature should be protected and made illegal to sell or own. This would protect wild coral reefs and promote aquaculture; this not only benefits biodiversity but also the hobbyist, as aquacultured corals are actually hardier and generally prettier/healthier than wild caught corals. The biggest thing holding aquaculture back is the competition from wild collected corals that are sold dirt cheap to the exploiters who import them.

Nice looking setup you have there i've wanted a coral setup for a few years, but unfortunetly none of the shops i've been to can garantee the source

Only just seen these pics Capital.. And very very nice.. Id love to have a tank like that but its a very expensive setup.. my sister has a simular tank but nowhere near as nice as yours.. Any chance of some fresh pics

I commend your pasion to keep this reef alive Capital0, it takes great dedication to keep the water to the exact salt content, I did many years ago work in an aquatic house, with many many marine fish and living reef/corals, so although I would have loved to set up a simular tank, even now, I know it would be too much to take on. Sadly when I did work there, there probably wasnt the kind of moniterd "sustainable sourcing" that is in place today, I am almost ashamed to admit that, as its probably in a small way added to todays state of the reefs...... but alas I was 16 years old, and in the employment of another.......
