I'm also interested in this species and I probably will hunt for it next spring. They are quite common in my town, but new queens are rather rare.
What I know from Polish ant websites:
These ants develop quite slowly - in normal conditions, with hibernation, you won't have more than 100 in one year. Their colonies aren't big - even with a few queens (they're polygynic) they don't reach size above 2000. They build nests in sand, but they also live well in other types of formicaria. Like most other ants, they are territorial and quite agressive, they will likely eliminate any other ant nests if you give them chance. For humans, they aren't agressive, though they can sting painfully, they do it only in direct self-defense. If you start from single queen, remember you must feed her with bugs, when first larvae hatch. Their customs are quite primitive - the new queens build the nests and then go out hunting, like wasp queens.

i'm sorry to push the point, but, all you need to know is on this forum already, you just cant be bothered to look for it......as for keeping it here for other people to find, well no they wont find it, coz it doesnt even have the name of the species you are asking about in the title ;)

the problem is ant dude, so many people cant be bothered to run a quick search and get the info they need, if you just put manica rubida into the search on this forum you will find pages and pages of info ;)

its bad etiquette to not search before asking questions

anyways, dont mean to be so negative, but ur just being lazy, and we see it on here almost every day

you are also missing out on lots of other valuable information that you may not think to ask about, but that is in the other threads from other peoples experience :)

yeah but cos its all in german and none in english that is relevant to the subject it does make it a lot harder, although yes there is information but it all takes time reading and sorting it all out.plus when somtimes u need/want to go back to information u have missed or u just wish to read again, u will have to do the whole tranlating progress again to be abel to understand it!

its not a quick search when u have to translate all the other lanuages to english!

I know sometimes it is hard to find the perfect information and translation pages are not a 100% correct but they are a good help.

But back on topic:

That are in deed nice pictures the one colony (pictures) are mine the other is Skippy's. I know they are in the dutch part of the forum but i think it not done to post all the pictures here and at the dutch part.

Like you can see Skippy's keeps them in a Y-tong (mine are in it to but i do not have pictures of that yet). They like y-tong but you can also keep them in a sand/loam nest.
They are quite active.
They are not really aggressive and they prefer insects as well as sweets (sugar/water ore honey ore ...)
It are European ants so they need a hibernation from about 4-6 months.

About the young queens build there nest and hunt for there young i can not say, i had this one when it was already a small colony (1 queen and about 10 workers)

This all said in my experience with these ants. But every colony is a bit different to handle. ;)
