My New Formicarium

Hello all,

This is my only Red Ant Colony I have (species unknown).

She only has 5 workers. This is a 4 inch picture fram I am using and you'll notice on the bottom right I have a few cotton balls stuffed in a hole that I keep moist from the back. You'll notice on the top right is where it leads to the hony water and soon to be feeding area.

This is so nice that I could keep it on my office desk at work but everyone would want to handle it and stress them out so home it sits.

Their abdomins are full of the honey water and I feed this small colony just the crickets legs which they love :)

Why do you think she stopped laying eggs? I will keep her in the dark for weeks and only disturb as little as possible at feeding time.

Sorry about that - I meant to say 4 inches in thickness. It is actually about 8 inches in height.

Very nice, in deed, ants lay eggs in periods if the colony is small. So that is possible, maybe she already stops laying eggs making ready for hibernation, that is also possible. Some species stop really soon, but we do not know the species so it is hard to tell. ;)
