I have the same problem with my Manica rubida colony. I keep them in ytong nest in aqarium. In the nest area everything is normal and peacefull. Ants going about their business as normal. But above in arena... it is like a war zone. 3 or 4 ants sometimes pick on one and they are pulling her and draging her around untill she is dead. For sure they are not doing this out of hunger. I give them plenty of crickets and honey water.

Another thing that surprised me is there is vast amount of workers in the arena at all times. For other colonies that I keep I could say that about 80% of ants are in the nest most of the time. But for M. rubida I could say that the ratio is 50:50. :?

I'm not sure what is happening but I sure am curious how will this colony end up.

Euh... I spend a lot of time at this forum that is all. ;)
I have a little experience with some species, and i know a little of ants, but not everything, some people really study ants, wish i did to. ;)

is it normal for them to still be living in the test tube after so long, the water has almost dried up? they seem to live in the tubes conecting to the farm as well, and i put a tube with water in it next to the one they came in to make sure they dont run out of water and if they dont like the farm or anything they can move into that, but they never go into it?

have i just got fussy ants or something?

first of all, I'm glad they are better.

Do not worry to much, they will move if it is needed, if not you can still help them a bit. ;) Mine moved out a few days after i put them in there new home.
