Figured i should help skippy emphasise his easy to use method and post my queen drinking from her new pot of sugar water

It's hard to tell she is drinking. Her head is there but you can't see much movement apart from the odd leg movement but she is drinking (I hope )

edit: she is beeing at it for about 10 mins ... Skippy?

edit: nm she must have been enjoying. She left the pot and is wiping her mouth

hehe. I'm gonna try that soon, i have 6 "pots" like that waiting. As soon as i leave the computer i give them some food

I looking on your picture and I see ... you keeping Messor (barbarus ?)

all Myrmecinae species drinking VERY slowly - so it is always better to get some small mellow insect (food and water inside) ... in my experience it is about 10mins like you wrote

all Formicinae species drinking faster ,or VERY fast. So ,this feeding system is for this ant category. In my experience ,for example ,Camponotus worker small is full to <1 minute.

Thanks for using this system I think it is the best ,but also better is getting it out from tube/nest ,when is queen/ants full of food ,because they could to move it on bad place in tube eee or they could make mistake and get brood into

Hey skippy yeah it's messor barbarus have two workers so far and about 10 larvae as you can see. How do you know she is full? Apart from if she is not eating means she is not hungry

When is queen/ant hungry ,it has small gaster ,if is more food inside ant ,gaster grow up. Maximum is ,when you can see intersegmental part (I dont know to name it) ,these yellow/white lines on gaster. On Messor is a bit hard to see that ,the best you can see it on Formicinae species. I had Messor barbarus and optimal size of gaster of queen was ... ca 5mm

I see well i can see some beige lines on her gaster. Well 2 actually but it's hard to tell if her gaster is larger than before or not lol

First one are black lines ,then starts on sides white lines and at final ,first black lines will became white lines
