mould in tank

Help to the newbie

mould in tank

Beitragvon badman » 25. Jul 2007 21:27

Hey my queen is still sitting on her eggs all day barely moving, there's some white fuzz growing on the loam outside the test tube. I kept the loam damp to increase the humidity, but this seems to have opened the door to mould.

My plan is to dry the loam by heating the tank with a lamp and removing the lid, hopefully this will kill the fungus.

How can I stop fungus growing back? Obviosuly the loam has to be moist.

are you sure its not cotton? My queen digs into the cotton at the back when she is drinking i guess and then drops it as trash outside the tube

Maybe you keep the loam a bit to wet ? There has to be enough fresh air inside the farm to keep the mould away.

As JimmyVe says, you have to make sure there is plenty of ventilation, a good guide for ventalating a basin is to have at least 25% of the surface area of the lid ventelated, more if possible and as long as it allows the temp and humidity to remain at the needed levels, if you still have problems with mold then u can install a fan to suck air out of the basin, the small flat ones you get for computers will do, i think they sell sum in antstore, but depending where you are it may be better to buy one from ur local pc store, u'l need to get an adapter for it of course to plug it into the wall
