I guess its trail and error here Kiam, you will only see which they favour by experimenting.
Just be sure not to give then anything they cannot easily kill, ie too large for them to take down.
It's fun to watch them kill live prey, but anything too big, kill it and chop it up, bu sure to take out anything they do not eat after 24 hours, though with thaqt many ants, I doubt yuo will have much left!
As for freezing, well I am not too sure, I mysalf feed wax worm which have turned to chrisalis, as the worms are huge and no way could they kill them, and I found when cutting them up it made a mess, so I found one in the tub that was chrisalis, popped that in, and they cut into it, and then took food from it as they need it, but I only have 4 ant 5 with queen.
Yuo can try most anything in the garden, beetles, catterpillas, spiders (if too big kill them first)
I am not a huge expert in this field, but this is what I do, hope it helps a little.

Ps also at night yuo can catch moths, just leave a light on and a window open, they will soon be attracted to the light, and are easy to catch.

Is the test tube in an arena?
if so, the ants will dispose of anything they dont need, it's what they leave outside in the foraging area yuo must take out.

and yeah moths are fine

Yes it's likely to be an egg off another insect, or even slugs but not likely wasps, as thier culture is that of the ant..starting out in a simular way.
Yeah a ytong nest will be ok.
I would suggets trying to get some kind of nest sorted ASAP

Y-tong would be fine. you can give them every insect you find. ;) but like darradar said, if it is to big kill it first. ;)

They also like sweets, honey or sugar or something like that.

If the colony is in deed 250 workers strong it is better to keep them in a bigger nest than in a tube.

btw: if you just added a message you can EDIT it, there is a button in your right corner (of the message) so you do not have to make a new message after 2 minutes.

I think you'l find Jimmy was refering to "here" being the Antstore shop, and not here as in the UK.....
I see from yuor age Liam that yuo are a young boy, can yuo not enroll an adult/parent into making/buying all the materiels needed?, I am sure a few weeks of washing the pots will prove an adequate way to earn some extra pocket money....
Second hand fish tanks (small ones) are sometimes available at the local pet store, ones that have been cracked and can no longer hold water, are sold cheaply, perhaps that could be a starting point.
You sure need to work on this sooner rather than later, 250+ ants in a test tube really is'nt too good for them.
could yuo at least put the tube into a plastic box, the kind yuo store food in (yuor mum might have one yuo could use) that way at least the ants can foraige for the food, and also it must be difficult providing them with water, inside a test tube, this is just a thought to help you.
I hope it does :)
