picture of the complete unit with lid on
here you can see that i sprayed the lid black so its very dark inside the nest so the queens wont get stressed out at all. i have also painted the side of the perspecs black too, so no light can get through there.
heres nest 2, which was all dremeled out, and a hole made to where the tube fits nicely and is sealed in place!
heres nest 1, there are 3 nests i made in total! all with the same technique.
You making very nice formicariums. This ant nest was made flexible ,for all normal ant spec ,I think right ? It is good. I also making formicariums like that ,but If you will have more interesting ant spec. you will must to make more specific formicarium for specific ant spec ,but this is good
yeah you can keep many different types within it. the tunnels are nearly 1cm in widith, and around 8mm deep, so plenty of room for your average ant . there fun to make... just loads of concrete dust, heh.
here you can see the bowl of water, and the concrete soaks up the water, and makes some of the nest moist, and some dry, with imbetween, so ants can choose where to go.
nice pictures deadmeat
i have a problem keeping my nest moist i place a tube full of water hooked up to it with cotton wool but over night the whole tube was empty and the block dry,
i cant do like you have as i have no cutting for it is there anything i could do

@deadmeat30: very nice. its a very interesting system´that i have never seen before. i like the watersystem, it seems very easy to work with it.
many hugs, shiela.
@ ShIeLa: thanks for the comments, and very nice islands you have there! very creative! When i next make a nest, ill do a step by step topic on how i created it! Its very easy and fun too do!
Sithmaster676: You can use a bowl of water and a wick. You fasten the wick at the edge of the glass of your formicarium. And you put the other end in the water. Make sure the wick at the glass are upper than water level.
You can use thread from a new mop as wick for example. And you have to change the wick time to time whan it did not lead the water well anymore.
