Temnothorax nylanderi set up

Beitragvon deadmeat30 » 14. Mai 2007 20:21

hey everyone, for those that have seen my Temnothorax nylanderi before on the forums, just an update. the colony is doing amazing! and i have finished there custom built formicarium! its only small as the colony doesnt need much room. so i came to the conclusion that the island was way to big for there needs. ive attached some pictures of there new home, and they seem to be going from strength to strength. If anyone else has Temnothorax nylanderi, or is looking at getting some, then ill be happy to assist!

Very nice looking nest. How do you keep the nest moist?

I have a small Leptothorax spec. colony and i'm looking nest solution for them.

very nice pictures werty, and ty JimmyVe, i will add a cotton wool bud into the nest, but i have found that the ants dont enjoy mosit areas. so they might be fine without. if you look on my thread in beginners questions for the temnothorax nylanderi then you can find pictures of what i mean!

I also keep this species and I can confirm from my experience that most of the time they keep themselves in the dry part of the nest.

There are in deed species that rather keep it dry than moist.

Hi,
I did read sometime ago that Leptothorax and Temnothorax queens are very short lived ( one to three years ) . Is it true ?

No that is not true, amrik singh.
I once red a lifespan of about 5 years but I can´t find that again so I can only suggest a lifespan of about 5 years.
