Hi guys ,

The lot of people can see my Camponotus vagus everywhere ,in Antstore ,in ARAD pages or anywhere in web. You want Camponotus vagus too? I show you ,how I making small colonies from young queens. This is small list about this Campo species and text with datums about starting colony ,what queens doing and more....I will to upgrading it.

Camponotus vagus is not arduously ant species. They live in old wood and adult colony normally have 1000<5000 workers. Vagus also have swarm time sometimes in April – May (in mountains later). They keep hibernation cca 3 months in 0-10 ´C. Queen is 16-17 mm long and worker 6mm (first workers) to 13mm (major) .

About queens:
I found all queens at swarm time 13. Friday April 2007 near my home ,where are 3 old colonies on small place. I found 15 queens ,I want only 2 ,13 queens are for trade.

Queens are alright ,I get 8 queens to special ytong formicarium ,7 to glass tubes. Queens are peaceful ,small activity – waiting to first eggs.

I get for queens honeywater ,at tonight 3 queens making first egg.

I getting honeywater again ,all queens look very nice ,but one is sick and one have not a bit of front leg. I kill these sick queens and get it like food for other ants. All queens have eggs now. Some queens have 2 ,some 3 and 2 queens have 4 eggs.

I get Bhatkar mixture for all queens ,all queens are full of food .1 queen has only 4 eggs ,other queens has 6-10. All queens are alright.

I getting only clean water today. All queens has a lot of eggs. One queens has 6 eggs and other cca 7-12. It is maximum what queen of campo vagus normally making in starting the colony. I must only waiting to first larvae.

First larvae was found! It during cca 18 days ,when egg became larva in Camponotus vagus species in 60-70 percent humidity and 24´C temperature.

A lot of eggs became larvae. First larva is day to day bigger and bigger. I getting every 3. days the mixture of honeywater and chicken eggs – but very very thin concentration. It is good for a lot of ant species like Camponotus ,but sometimes you can get a small insects too.

Yes, but they don't have much larva yet, a lot of eggs and a few larva. Very nice ants to, can't wait to see the first workers come out.

Yes Jimmy ,first cocoon "have eyes" already ,I thinks to 1-2 weeks is first worker.
