Hi,
I bought a Antworks box. In the guide they say we must use Harvester Ants (American). Which are the most adequate ants for this material, that I can buy in this site ?
Please reply as soon as possible. I would like to order them before christmas ...

Hi. Welcome to the forum.
Am im right that a Antwork box a gel formicarium is? When yes i give you the hint to keep ants in normal glass or plastic formicarium.
Because these gel formicariums are only for temporary use. For a presentation in school or something like that. But its not good for ants to hold them in a gel formicarium for years.....

I knwo its hard because you bought already a formicarium. But when you want that your ants feel good and so they increase you should use a normal formicarium....

Ok, I have the idea to improve an move to a more professional formicarium later. But for now I'll need to buy ants capable of digging gel and addequate to that box.

if you like to do that, you just need to pick up some workers from the ants that live in your country en they will dig some tunnels in it and than die. (you can't do anything more with the antworks stuff, i don't really now why they sell it)
You don't need to buy a colony for it they will not survive a week in it.

If you like to keep a colony that lives in a "natural" way i must stick with purifier's idea.

Harvester ants is american name for Messor species ants. Good luck with finding a place where you can buy a whole colony of them. Now you are most likely to get just the queens.

I'm not sure if Messors are the most apropriate species to put in antworks farm. But if you have to put ants in there buy kolony of Lasius niger. They are highly adaptable to all conditions, beginer friendly and inexpensive. And they are not too big so they should fit in the farm.

usually you can buy the harvester ants for these ant farms on a leaflet that they send in the manual if not like jimmyve has said then it would be best if you found some workers that are in the country you live in
on what jimmyve said : lasius niger colonies are no good on these types of ant farms as they are totally incapable of digging into the gel and eventually die on the surface
