i was wondering if you could give me infomation on how to keep Myrmica rubra in an ant display:)
and is it better to have more than one queen in the colony if this is possible if so is antstore able to sell colonies with extra queens.

Myrmica rubra can have more queens. (i keep them in a Y-tong nest)

yes it is possible to get more queens, but next year.

thanks for the reply you sent i dont want a colony of myrmica rubra until after the hibernation period round about april when i have my new set up ready:)
do you have any info on this colony for me please.

so these ants are fine to be kept in a 60cm by 50 cm by 10 cm home made tank and how long will this species be able to live in this tank:)

Hi Sith,
The first two pictures you see of myrmica rubra at the ant database are mine.
You can keep them in a tank like this but i think they will outgrow it in a few years. (2-3)

ok how big is your tank that you keep yours in because i have heard from someone else that this size of tank would be perfect because myrmica rubra don't need as much room as say lasius niger?

indeed, mine is about 40cm-40cm-40cm but not all of it is nest, the 'outside world' is in there to

so a 60cm by 50 cm by a roughly 10cm would be suitable for them

I'm not entirely sure that they will ever grow out of a tank this big as it is pretty big although the measurements of this tank i could increase like it could be 60 by 60 by 10 that would properly be better
