Hi steve/leon,
i must say,
Pheidole pallidulla also needs hibernation ! but not as long as Lasius niger. i have them myself and the hibernate from November till the end of February.
I have a heating lamp on top to keep the temperature above 25°c.
For prices look at the shop.

I must say, it are fun ants to keep ;)

"P. pallidula does not have a yearly cycle with mandatory dia. break; it is a ant, which can adapt to an all year round rather high temperature ("kitchen ant"). They are very durable. You can take it out (from the hibernation), when want you."

If you want, so it is possible indeed, but in my experience you better leave them.

Right ....

Im starting to learn a bit now .... slowly slowly !

These are going to be in my study which is approx 80-85 degrees.

I dont want to spend a fortune but, my ant farm is going to be massive !

Whats the best suggestion of the best ants to get ?

Thank you all very much for your help.

That depends on what ants you like, i suggest that you start with an easy ant species. because its your first colonie. Look around on the net, and read about the species than decide witch one you want to.
