hello guys my Messor cf. capitatus got mites and the queen has some on her so my nest is dead . But am waiting new ants some think thats eats insects and would not get mites as easy, i have the XL starter set but am willin to pay for more tanks and setups has any one got any ideas?.

Hi josh

Well there isn't a species that doesn't get mites easy, but there are ways to prevent it like boiling set up material, if you found a piece of wood outside than its best to just boil it. I suggest Messor barbarus as they would be just right for a large setup but require a trash basin.

Well Messor spp. aren´t ants that get mites that easily.

Also I never really understood how boiling up your whole stuff would help your ants not getting mites. Ants get mites not because there are mites around them but much rather because they are to weak or to stressed to follow their normal cleaning routine and the mites can feed on the weak ants.

Also what ant you want, joshua867, really depends on what you like in ants.
So what ants do you like?
