I wondered what time would be the best to order a new colony. Would winter be good since they may stress less while being shipped during hibernation or would there be more stress since they may be disturbed? Or would spring be better??

Also since I live in sweden I am worried that they may get cold during shipping. This has happened the previous time (late february when temperatures were still below freezing) and the colony has not really grown much.

Any advice?

Well I guess it would be dependent on species. What are you thinking of getting?

Currently I am considering northern european species which may be better adapted to the environment here (although they will be indoors in 22degrees unless I actively change these conditions). I am interested in some of the Myrmica species, any of the formica. I like what I read about Formica sanguiea,Formica cunicularia, formica rufibarbis and Myrmica ruba.

At some stage in the future when I feel more confident I would try my hand at exotic species.

bugsy is right. If you would order a tropical spec. they wouldnt say "thank u" if you let them ship in the winter months

Never ship under 10C and over 25C ! For ANY species!
If it's a tropical species and temperatures are a bit cold and unpredictable (riding around 10-15C) I'd suggest a heatpack.
