Hello Charles 17,

here in this forum.
Oh this is difficult. If you get an import licence of the American authorities for the importation of ants, then we can help you.
But I think, the American authorities will issue no import licence.
greetings
Uta

especially if licenses are so hard to get... all i find are virgin queens who die because they dont eat or drink... i would dig up a colony if i could find an appropriate species. but usually their colonies are encased in concrete or too far away or something... thanks if anyone could help out.

hey for the people that actually breed and sell ants in europe- how is that you can get a queen pregnant for all the colonies you ship out? one time i had a carpenter ant queen and king, but they wouldnt mate cuz they were confined to an ant farm. dont they need to mate like while theyre flying? how do you guys get that done in the quantity that you need?
gah i wish i lived in europe. for the ants, among other reasons... lol

Hello ralphdrake,
Could i get an import licence for australia then import ants?
I don't know, if you get it from your local authorities. Try it! But I think, you will get no import licence.
Greetings

Charles17 I feel your pain. I reside in the eastern United States and have been unable to find any ants, even though its supposed to be 'swarming season'. This is ridiculous and the fact that there aren't many ant owning Americans is a cause of further frustration. I am particularly interested in larger ant species. Oh well its sad.

Hi Bob, nice you want to keep ants.
The law is hard on ant keepers in the USA, but there are very nice ants there, are you sure you can not find one at swarming season ?

Yea I couldn't. I have been living in this area for a few years and I haven't even seen the ants that DO live here(fire ants) swarm. Just last week I stumbled upon a fire ant queen outside a shopping store and rescued her because it appeared a few ants were trying to kill her. However as for swarming ants I haven't seen any. I am still looking though. The fact that no one sells ants here is frustrating. I think they should allow sale of ants to states to which the ants are already native at least. Oh well what the heck I guess I'll have to keep trying my luck and searching. At this stage I'm only interested in new queens. i do not want to invade an established nest. I don't believe in doing that. If someone mails me a colony fine but I refuse to invade established nests.
