For filling the ant farm standard I recommend you:
- 1x potters clay
- 2x sand
- 1x loam
- 1m flexible tube
- 1x pipette
By mixing sand and loam you get a stronger soil less sensible at vibrations to reduce the risk that chambers and channels get destroyed.
you also need:
- a little bit cotton wool
With the flexible tube you can build you a possebility how to keep the farm easely humid. Cut it a little bit less of the height of the farm (2-3cm). On both sides close the tube with a piece of cotton wool and put this composition at first into the ant farm directly at the side. Then fill the potters clay in (2-3cm are enough). After this fill in the dry-mixed the sand and loam. For filling in you can use a paper helf-folded. Put the paper into the small slit and over this the sand-loam-mix in. Over the flexible tube you can fill in some water.
With the rest of the flexible tube you can connect the farm with the test tube. Now you have to wait till the ants settle in the farm. Give them some honeywater on the inner side of the lid (of the farm) also some pieces of insects.
So that all to install the farm...
