I captured this colony a few weeks ago and lost about 8-10 workers due to moving them around. The colony is stable now with 35+ workers 3-4 new workers and a large batch of brood (40+) This specie is quite picky when it comes to feeding but I managed to figure out what they like. Meal worms and spiders seem to be the only thing they take in for protein and most sweet liquids will do.
A few new photos! Busy day. One of the workers antenna is stuck in some sap from the spider. Eating a cut up meal worm. Fast growing brood. Naked pupa?
The colony was crammed in the test tube so I decided to move them into my other Camponotus setup. The move went smooth but I did have a few runners but managed to catch them all.
C americanus seem picky when it comes to food compared to any other Camponotus specie I have kept. I made a list of what they will eat. sugar water honey fruits crickets spiders meal worms flies
I have 10-12 new workers since last update and more on the way. I was excited to see my first major born in captivity, shes quite beautiful. I'm going camping soon so I would like to give you more pics to enjoy. Major just born.
More workers born recently bringing the number around 125 workers. They finally got back their appetite as did my Camponotus chromaiodes colony. I hope the larvae develop into adults before winter.
I had much joy watching this colony grow from 80-90 workers to 150+. I don't think the current larvae batch (25) will be born this year which is fine with me. I got a nice surprise from the current pupa batch a huge major. Hyperlinks sind nur für registrierte Nutzer sichtbar Grooming.
