Dominant queen?

Beitragvon bryguy97 » 4. Jun 2010 01:53

I have a Prenolepis imparis colony with two queens, eggs, and a few larvae. One queen sort of snaps her jaws at the other queen, but never really attacks her. Is this policing of some kind? Or is it just aggression? If she is just aggressive towards the other queen, I might want to take one out of the test tube so that the first workers won't kill it. Thanks for any help!

It is normal that the queens of most species dominate each other. I think it won´t be dangerous for your queens to keep them together later on they have enough food and protection and the very aggressiv behaviour gets lower.
Most species dominate each other, ponerinae of course is an extrem example, Harpegnathos can have several queens and only one of them can lay eggs.
