Alternative to water... Sort of

Beitragvon SteveUK28 » 26. Apr 2010 13:43

Hey guys

I thought i would share something with ya... I know a lot of you make your own protein jelly which is cool.. my ants have never actually liked it... But thats another story...

Right... Ive been using bird feeders and test tubes to give me ants water for a few years now.. and tbh im getting fed up of them leaking or the sand soaking it all up ect ect.. so i tought id buy some Aqua jelly... most of my ants didnt mind it.. some were not to keen like but hey.... So i thought id save a ton and make my own...

So Big jug of boiling water.. add a few spoons of sugar stir... then add a packed of Gelatine... stir making sure its all dissolved... add a few icecubes to cool it down... throw it in the fridge... Wollah... Awesome Aqua Jelly... My ants go nuts for this jelly.. they love it... and of course i save a fortune making it myself... Also you could even add some fish flakes to it... or some honey.. or even a crushed multi vit tablet just to give your ants a little boost...

Anyways give it a try and please leave me your feedback...

Thanks :)

hi Steve, what is the consistency of this aqua jelly? did you follow the instructions for making usual jelly (e.g. 500ml of water for 1 pack) or added more water (e.g. 1liter for 1 pack)? want to make it myself, but not sure how it should look like :) how long does it stay fresh? do you freeze it or keep in fridge only? i know that i can experiment, but rather will go with already tested recipe :)
thanks;)

it was just guesswork... i used 1 pack of gelatine to one large mug of water... prob could have used a jug of water and it would have set nice...
Just experiment the same. I keep mine in the fridge and there is still some there... However it does goes off in the basin if left too long... id sayo change whats left every 3 days.

Steve

It's not really an alternative to water. It's a food. Gelatin is basically protein. Although it doesn't contain all the amino acids, it will certainly help if occasionally supplemented with insects and meat.
