First Camponotus cruentatus colony and blog

Beitragvon nerdgeek » 3. Apr 2010 18:51

Day one of my Camponotus cruentatus colony, consisting of the Queen, one 1st generation worker and an egg.

I'll keep them at room temp today which is 22-23C and increase this through out the week to 30C not increasing it over 5C per day.

Have a look at Hyperlinks sind nur für registrierte Nutzer sichtbar for my blog and videos.

I also want to say thanks to UneXisted for all your help.

No problem. Your basin looks great! Well done.

Also: your basin is a little bit to big for this small colony. This is not a problem, but pay attention to the worker. Sometimes they get lost in a big basin. For now i suggest to put the dish with food and water near the entrance of the test tube. Also, they usually only take liquids. You can try to experiment with a yellow egg mixed with sugar and millk.

OK will give that a try and I've moved the honey closer.

The Queen just came out to the entrance of the test tube, her front right leg is half missing which you can make out in the video on my blog. Is this going to cause problems?

I'll keep you updated.

I witnessed the worker ant today feeding the Queen some honey water. I tried the egg white but the worker wasn't interested. I'll keep that in mind though for when there are more of them to feed maybe.

Yellow egg contains more proteins.

My ants do not accept the white egg, only yellow.
