At the moment i have a colony of 100-150 workers residing in a completely dry y-tong nest. I have no idea what the air humidity is in the nest. Probably around 50-60% (that is the air humidity in my room).

Before i stopped humidifying the nest i already noticed that the M. barbarus workers did not placed the brood in the wet chamber. That is why i stopped humidifying.

Has anyone experienced this before?

Yes, my Messor minor also do not place their brood in the wettest camber. They are concentraded on the hottest piont and don´t like high humidity that much.
But what they need the wet cambers to is not brood but the seeds can´t be eaten without humidity and a little water.
Messor mostly don´t know wet locations of their natural habitat and aren´t concentrated on the humidity that much like Myrmica rubra and so on are. Thats a perfectly normal for animals from their habitat.

I see. I forgot to mention that i have placed a test tube filled with water, which acts as a water reservoir, in the basin. This way they are still provided with water. Also, some people think that Messor barbarus can extract water from the air. Ofcourse, the air needs to be humid. Works for 50-60%
