Hello:)
The picture shows how to water the nest in this type of formicary.
With this nest size you should water it every 3 weeks. After placing the formicary under 30-45 degrees angle pour about 7 ml of water onto the glass lid covering the nest (not to the nest entrance, but on it's end - there is no glue in this spot, so the water will slowly soak into the cork). 3-4 hours later you can place the formicary horizontally, and for next 20-25 don't think about the water level, only focusing on ant observations. The moisture part should take 15-35% of the whole nest in the case of this ant species (it's better to have 40% than 10%). The moist part is darker than the dry cork, so you can easily tell when you should add more water. The formicary arena has to be always completely dry. At the time the C. ligniperda colony will reach 50-60 workers you can stop moisturizing the nest manually. You can put a glass tube full of water plugged with a piece of cotton wool (it has to suck up water). The ants will be then drinking from it, and bringing drops of water to the nest.
