Any tips on caring for Messor?

Beitragvon ant kid » 24. Jan 2010 13:34

Hello,

Im looking into getting a small colony of Messor, I already have Lasius niger and Lasius flavus. I want something a bit higher and I have seen that messor are easy. Are there any basic tips also were could I get grass seeds for them and does the temp have to be 25C? I know there is a caresheet but when I click it says you have to pay or something. Also do they like it humid?

Thanks,

They are not hard if you colony has about 20 workers. The frist year is hard. Don't disturb the queen to much. They like it rather dry. When they colonie is about 10 workers strong you can feed them seeds, the time before you're best of giving them only insects.
When awake (hibernation ends for them around end of February) you can put a heat mat or some other kind of heating in there farm to give them a nice warm place. About 25°c would do just fine.
