on rare ocations i have seen two queens together but when the first workers arive the workers will choose one queen and kill the other.

Yes Myrimica rubra do have lots more queens in the nest.. I have a colony myself with around 8 queens.
Lasius niger on the other hand only do have ONE queen, any more and the workers will fight untill there is only one left.. and sometimes even both will die.. so its not even almost worth the risk.

Yes as everyone said Lasius niger colony has only one queen, but productivity is fast enough, well if u want to have a lot of queens u should try Myrmica rubra.. or find out more ant species which have more when one queen.

yep just make sure you can afford to expand the nest sooner then with just 1 queen or ull run into problems

I have 2 Queen lasius niger with 3 workers and are peaceful, and nothing you do not

Time will come and workers will chouse which queen to kill.

I've tried this myself, its ok when there are a small number of workers as they can't take on a queen, but when there are alot of them, say about 20 they will some how kill the other queen and yes sometimes you are even left with no queens at all.

You can have two queens share a brood but when the brood has hatched they will kill one of them.
