Ok, i did say about my ligi queen but cant find the thread so il start a new...

Righty ive had my Camponotus ligniperda queen for some time now since before xmas... She raised a few workers around 8 i think i had.. and i then put them into a setup with a log... I then checked it after like a month or 2 as i saw no activitiy at all.. and found all workers dead and the queen all alone with no eggs or anything..
That was like a good 2 weeks ago.. maybe even 3.. since then ive had her in a test tube and have been feeding her honey, bugs, protein jelly.. bit of everything really... However she has not laid a single egg... well she may have and ate it but ive not seen one... My simple question is.. Will She ever start again.. or am i just now waiting for the dreaded death of my queen...
I know she is more than likely going to die but wouldnt she have gone already???

Accrding to "The Ants", Camponotus species queens have two periods of laying eggs. One in the spring and the second one in late summer. First develops to adult workers the second one only to stage of larva and then spends a winter in this form and develops only next year.

Tbh, I don't have so much experience with C. species but for the one I have I can confirm this behaviour.

So if the queen does not lay eggs by the end of the august you have a problem.

my Camponotus ligniperda colony's queen isnt laying any eggs either anymore but as mpir mentioned i hope she starts laying again some eggs at late summer

tbh steve i think your queen wont make it.

It is really hard for the queen to start back from zero. Specially for this species. I'm sorry to say Steve but it looks bat. I hope for the better.

My Componotus ligniperda is growing slow. I like these ants but i hope the colony would get bigger soon.

I think your both right i dont think she will make it either Such a shame these really are one of my fav ants.. i'll have to find another colony. Why do you think all the workers died?? They had sugar water, fresh water and i was feeding them crickets.. baffles me

my ligniperda queen doesnt follow suit. shes laying eggs nearly every two days. soo much larvae. id say about 60 little larvae and 4 big larvae, and about 10 cocoons. well im guessing now its like this because the colony is 38 strong now.

well my colony loves the warmth, i have a little heat mat under the y-tong nest and add water to the y-tong which gives them good humidity and keeps them hydrated. their gasters are all swollen, even the queens. i think hydration helps alot plus a bit of heat to create some humidity

they love honey. they have some every day with a few dea flys and crickets.
they also like chicken alot. lots of protein.

plus remember Hybernation in the winter is a big big factor. the longer the hibernation the more rest. this colony was 10 when i took them out of hybernation in Beginning or march. since then their size is 30+ with 2 majors

hi guys long time no talk i almost stopped keeping ants for a while but im going get back into it i think.
similar story to steve started with 3 workers about a year ago, maxed out at 5 workers,random deaths, then they all started slowley dieing off, now i have none and the queen has no eggs or larvae. i tried feeding her a few insects but not interested, made a fresh test tube for her and gave some honey which i saw her eating, is there any hope?

i would pay good money for some cocoons or something but i doubt that will ever happen seeing as no-one on here has a large enough colony to start taking them away.

i wish antstore had some large colonies in stock.

weel ratgreen ive got a colony of around 200 workers of liniperda for about 2 years now. they are verry agressive and live in a y tong. i have some caccons if u want but the queen doesnt nomrally accept them.
