Hi to everybody, this topic is about indoor mating, for indoor i mean in a formicarium. Where i live (rome) there are lots of Messor barbarus and i got lots of princesses (queen with flies not mated yet) and lots of male.
But i think they need an open space for the mating ceremony since it's a flyng ceremony.
What do you think is it easier if i put them in a larger formicarium, something like a tank, because they don't really seem interessed in mating in a close space, or it is impossible to recreate the right condition for mating?

If someone wants to try I have a few spare couples of pricesses and males of Messor barbarus to exchange with other race couples or queens.

those kind of experiences do not work.just wait for the flights,they already happened here,in the south of france

To my thinking it is very difficult or even impossible to recreate the right condition for mating. You have to collect the queens after mating. The conditions for mating are very complex and not realy good understood.
