Queen outside of nest.

Help to the newbie

Queen outside of nest.

Beitragvon titus » 5. Mai 2009 13:58

Hello,

I'm not real new to keeping ants but it's been quite a long time since I last had any. I recived an Aphaenogaster dulcineae queen today and noiced that a good amount of water was getting past the cotten stuffing so I placed the tube in a formicarium basin I had. Since then the queen has left the tube and has not returned to it. At about what time should I start to worry it's been about an hour now. I would think that she would have found another nesting site by now.

I have a few set up, two barkcovered sand sites and one rock covered site, as well as a farm, but I don't think she'll be moving that far yet. It looks like she may have taken to one of the bark sites then I saw her out and around again.

If she doesnt like any of the nesting sites you give her you can also try to give her a new tube. You can leave the tube in the setup that way (when workers hatch) the small colony can move if they like.

That sounds like it's going to be the plan, right now shes back in the tube and I've sealed it off and have it raised on one side so theirs no water on the side she's on. She's back to caring for her brood, So I think everythings going to be ok.
