In deed, i buy them sometimes to. Never been really bothered by the smell. And they are easy to feed, they don't harm the ants. ;)

Heh, I have no experiance of breeding ants and expect it is very difficult, but I did buy the second colony in the hope of experimenting to produce some fertile queens. If I ever do manage this they will def. be up for trade or sale

It is almost impossible. (if not impossible) never tried it myself but i read about it a few times. But if you succeed it would be nice and i'm curious to know how you did it than. ;)

Hey Steve, nice to meet you:)
I would like to post some backed up pics but unfortunatly my setup is most simple and un-inspiring atm. is real squashed up and hard to get nice shots. I`m moving soon tho and hope to dedicate a much larger space to the colonies.

In anticipation I have aquired a fish breeding setup which consists of racking and twelve 18" by 12" by 12" glass tanks, 4 wide, 3 deep. Don`t quite know what i`ll do with them yet but they have no lids which is a damned shame.

Hey guys,
Things have taken a turn for the worse lately, there seems to be hardly any brood left in my main colony. However the number of workers has not decreased by any noteable amount.

I`m guessing the lower temperatures could have something to do with it and have increased the temp in the cupboard where they are kept. The temp was falling to around 25 degrees, although I would expect it to be higher in the warmest part of my y-tong and this does not seem low enough to cause concern.

I have raised it now and it does not drop below 26 degrees I hope this will have the desired affect.

i have a bit of the same problem now with mine, the outside temperature is very low so it's only 25°c in the farm. There are not much death workers, but the brood is slower in development than usual.

Ashton, what fruits and seeds are you giving them? Pheidologeton need a diet of at least 50% fruits and seeds according to 'The Ants' by Holldobler and Wilson

This may be a factor, the food you are giving them may not have the right protiens/amino acids and vitamins/minerals

Might be worth looking into :)
