Im also thinking at buying pheidole pallidula so im asking that do i need anything special for them, i think i need to buy a heater lamp? And can they live in this kind of a nest?: http://www.antstore.net/shop/popup_imag ... 28&imgID=0
if i connect a antisland to there for a feeding arena? or do they need a wider nest? Also are they very difficult to keep and raise? It would not be my first specia to keep but im always cautious :)

Oh, or would this starter set be enough for them http://www.antstore.net/shop/product_in ... 1&cPath=58

I would very much like to watch inside their nest for their activities so all advices are good :)

Hi Alkio,
i think you better take the starter set. They don't need much to survive, just keep the heat about 25°C and the humidity about 60% that will do it.
(a heater lamp is ok, i also use it)

If you have questions, just ask ;)

Very much thanks for the help :). Im going to get that starter set at the summer when my job is over and i have more money. Also do they need to hibernate? I read its possible but should i do it then and for how long?

And where should i put the heaterlampthingy? :) (the best location), is there any good heaterlamp products in antstore, like this one? http://www.antstore.net/shop/product_in ... =88&cPath=
Or is there any better than that one?

Oh and almost forgot that do i need somekind heatingadjusters for keeping the heat in 25°C :o, or is it done by the heating lamp?

And, in that starter set formicarium, can i see well their activities etc? (sorry for spelling?)

Hibernate (you mean, sleeping during the winter) Yes from October till mars. You need to be sure the temperature stay's below 10°c.

This heater lamp seems OK, you can also take this one: http://www.antstore.net/shop/product_in ... 4&cPath=46

i have a thermostat that adjust the temperature.

You can see there activities outside the nest, inside it's difficult. if you want to see the activities inside the nest maybe you better take an Y-tong nest.

Thanks for fast answer :). Well i thought i could see their activities inside if their nest is thin enough, that formicarium i mean.

Is there any thermostat things sold in here which ones could adjust tempeture of the nest? Or do you mean your room where you keep the ants has that thermostat thing..?

;) if the formicarium is thin enough you can see the nest activities.

No you can't buy any thermostat at antstore (as for as i now) but you can buy it in a self made shop. I've placed the thermostat in the formicarium so the temperature inside is always around 25°C. and i connected the heating lamp with the thermostat.

If you use sand in the formicarium watch out for infections.

;) it's not that difficult, if you put them in your formicarium and connect them with the heating lamp you have the perfect temperature ;)

Infections from bacteria, they have no normal enemy in the formicarium and it is possible that they overrule your ants. Its difficult to prevent, that's way i switch over to a Y-Tong nest.

Hows that nest done? Have you put your ytong nest in a formicarium and some groundmaterials too? How you control nests humidity?
Im full of questions and i hope you are full of answers :D, please be patient with me. :E

So all i need is that starter set (?) and heating lamp? Or do i have to get that thermostat thing from somewhere..? Or is that heating lamp enough?

More pictures of that formicarium would be great :)
