the pheidoles are genuine escape artists,they actually walked on top of the water in my moat.they are so light that they didn,t break the water skin.any other ideas to keep them in.

Also anybody know if you can buy ready made ytong nests,somebody must be thinking about it now,a small fortune for somebody?

it's normal, most insects can walk on water. You have to put detergent like dish liquid in it. otherwise water has no effect on most ants. Some walk on it, others swim to the other side.

Furthermore you could use vaseline on the other side of your moat. If they manage to get there, they won't be able to climb up.

Pallidula will quiet happily chew thru ytong like dr.House says, use Vasaline, i've been using it for a while now, n no escapes yet

didn't know that miszt,is it possible for them to chew through plastic or the rubber tubing outlet pipes.

In deed, i have all my species in a y-tong except my Pheidole pallidula As for as i know they do not chew through plastic or rubber. (for rubber i'm not sure, did not try that yet.)
