new? ytong design

Beitragvon ratgreen » 29. Jun 2008 21:42

i just made up this design as it has some advantages which make it good, this is just a prototype and i used a bit of left over ytong to make it with.

you can see how much water there is in the resivour
you can see from the front and from behind
uses hardly any ytong you just need a slice as thick as the queen

interesting design ratgreen, with just one downfall i can see... the nest will be very wet with not much dry at all... and im not sure many ants like nests That Wet! Of course i could be wrong ;)
Nice idea tho.. i like the see through the whole nest idea too.. could easily put a heat mat up against the glass n the ants would stick the eggs too it all day ;)

Looks good. But the idea isn't new though... I saw a pretty simular nest to this one in the antstore in Berlin. But it was made from cork or something like that... but still very well done! I think it's a bit wet, but the nest itself is nice!

cheers guys, yer i will make the real one with 2 colloums of chambers and only one water resivour on one side, so the ants can choose how moist they want it.
also the one i made leaks so i will use more sealant next time, and have bigger chambers.

It looks like a small farm. Not ? Or is it just for a small colony ? ;)

This one should be good for tropical and swamp species.
