New Year, New Problems

Beitragvon Wildbird » 12. Apr 2009 21:47

Hiya Everyone

Well the good news is that that both the Lasius niger*Ants (year 3) and the Camponotus ligniperda* Ants (year 2) made it through the winter, in classic ant fashon they are munching their way through my towns entire insect population. It is entirely possible that there will be no spiders in Watford this summer.

My problem is this, the Camponotus ligniperda* ants are in a 40X30X20 ant farm, but they need to move as they have gone mad and they are going to run out of space. I have the bigger tank I bought last year. How do I get them to move over to the new tank without stressing the queen too much. Is it ok to just tip out the soil? I suspect not

Once these have been transferred to the big tank i'm gonna use this little tank for my Lasius niger* ants, these are still living the test tube Mizst gave me, so i'll just move the tube over and get 95% of the ants and the rest i'll move as I find them.

Thanks
Paul

Yeah, connecting them and letting them move would probably be the best. Keep the new tank nice and moist, and slowly let the old tank dry out, and hopefully they will move.

That is the best way to move ants from a old to a new farm. I always do that. Tipping them out is not an option.
