Hi,

I made this morning an order for two colonies of Myrmica Rubra and some other stuff and I have some questions. The order number is “040128-47720”.

1) What is the kind of time scale on them arriving in the Switzerland from order date to delivery?

2) I have just started to get interested in ants. I choose Myrmica Rubra for two reasons: low and easy maintenance, more expensive because they are polygynous. Good choice?

3) It is possible to mix the two colonies to make a bigger colony (at the beginning, later, never) ?

4) Now the ants make hibernation, when I need to feed them ?

5) I don’t order Ant Farm because I want to build one with plaster when the colonies grow larger between 150 and 200 ants per colony. How long does it take to grow to this size?

6) During this time, I will take “Behälter mit Trennvorrichtung” and make an separation inside (Trennscheiben) for simulate the nest and the foraging zone. Half of the receipt (the nest) will cover for the light. I will connect the test tube with the part representing the nest. Seems to be good ? Need some ground in the part represents the nest? May I swap the ants from the initial test tube to another bigger ?

7) My order seems ok to start, miss something ?

Sorry for this big message and my really bad English (worse in german, only fluent in French)…

I tried to answered all your questions, if you have more just aks me...

1) I can´t see into the ordering-data, so I don´t know which kind of payment you choose. we send the paket directly after arriving the money and it will took nearly 4-5 days.

2) Myrmica rubra is a good choise, interesting and robust

3) You can´t mixe the colonies because every colony have his own colony-aura and they remember this -> so if you mixed them they will kill eachother (

4) Did you know how to get them hibernate? Please aks me what to do if not! During this time you only have to watch over humidity, hybernation end march/april... then its getting warmer and then they want food.

5) Its a good question but I can´t answere it, its dependend from your starting colony size and many other conditions.

6) Put the test tube into one of the half container (=Behälter). At the beginning they will live in the test tube, if you give them some ground (sand mixed with a little bit loam nearly 60 to 40) they will settle in and grave into the ground. Please don´t swap the ants because there is the risk to damage them and loose the brood.

7) Sorry but I can´t see your order (look a 1), if you want send us your order-stuff per mail.

I can’t send you my order stuff per mail because I keep it in my home computer and now I am at work. But I can give to you the details:

Order number: 040128-47720
- 2 colonies of Myrmica Rubra;
- 2 Behälter mit Trennvorrichtung;
- 2 Trennscheiben;
- 1 Boden Sand;
- 1 Pflanzenöl;
- 2 Nest-Röhrchen versch. Größen
- 1 Pinzette standard.

I choose Credit Card (Master Card) Paiement.

I have more questions:

1) When all the stuff be send, Myrmica Rubra in stock?

2) Could you add “loam” in my order?

3) I order two colonies of Myrmica Rubra, Is it possible to change with one colony with two queens (ore more)? How many worker are with the queen? The price change?

4) I don’t know how to get hibernate and how long?

5) If I put some loam and sand in the nest, when I swap the colony in the new plaster nest, it must be harder and it must be difficult for the brood, what do you think?

Hello Chris!

Your paket has been send on the same day of your ordering-date. so its not possible to add loam or change your order of colony amount.

Please don´t swap the ants into the new container anyway - you risk to loose the brood.... Tomorow I will open another thread to answer your question about the hybernation, "see ya".
