Pheidole Pallidula

I have Pheidole Pallidula in a Test tube covered in foil and have place this in Glass Y-tong / formicary

I have had them about 4 weeks 15 workers & plenty of brood and seem to be doing very well. How do I coax them out of the test tube and into the Y-tong. I suspect I will hae to wait until colony grows and this should happen naturaly?

I have Messor Barbarus queen no workers, arrived about a month ago with 1 brood. Now apprx 10 brood. Once she has workers I will give her some seed. Already giving her the odd fly which she takes willingly.

When would be the best time to move her into something bigger and would a glass Y-tong as described above be ok for the next stage transfer?

And what way of maintaing the temperature around 28 degrees would you recommend as I understand some methods are more suitable than others i.e Heat may be not ideal?

Well just so you know both of them species are capable and do chew through ytong... and 27 degrees is perfect for messor barbarus not to sure about pheidole pallidula.

And I think you'll have to wait you can help them by putting a bright light near the test tube and keeping the ytong dark...

Well they can chew through it, but in this setup they can not escape if they chew through the y-tong. ;) Still these setups are small. I don't think you can keep them in there for a long time.

About heating up the farm. I use heat mats and heat lamps. The heat mat i use to heat up the farm, the lamp to heat up the out world. Don't forget to use a thermostat. ;)

I was thinking that this set up might be to small for Messor Barbarus as I do not think the queen could easily get into Y-tong via the tube?

I think this Y-tong could support 300-500 individuals and then I would need something bigger. Any recommendations?

I have not put any substrate in the open area of the Y-tong so as to try encourage them to take up residents in the Y-tong. Do you agree?

If they have no other place to build a nest they will accept the y-tong.

For Pheidole pallidula maybe it works out, 300-500 workers but for Messor barbarus .... :)
