i would love an exotic specie myself, but probably im getting formica sanguinea. if i get some exotics i go for looks alone, bigger is better for me, but most of the exotic species have more downsides than the europeans so in the end i dont know if its worth it. however i still cant decide, in the end i might just flip a coin.

European ants are most of the time easier to keep because they adjust easier than exotic ants. They almost like any food (by that i mean insects and honey) and they do not need heating device are tools to control there humidity.

Exotic ants are most of the time much bigger and have nice colors (some European ants have this to) you need to take care of them much more but i think they are just a little more interesting than European ants.
but they need heating device, most of them do.

i agree. the problem is that i would need controlled humidity without things rottening/ avoid mould etc. good controlsystem for heat mats (i have access to this) good realistic suitable ground substrate.

in reality what i need is a fully funtional micro eco-system which can counteract all these thing by its own, and thats relatively hard to produce i think, but not impossible. if a specie needs "tropical rainforest enviroment" (like 80%+humidity, they are very picky about nests, food etc) i think its too much work. at least for me, however i could easily manage any euro specie, now i have narrowed my choices down to Cataglyphis rosenhaueri/velox ( i like the red colour) and Sanguinea.

A perfectly micro eco-system, that would be great. I'm trying to find some stuff that would produce everything on his own but i'm not jet succeeded a 100%
