Is this farm ok?

Beitragvon Fiori » 13. Okt 2007 15:24

Wel considering that I had built a y-tong that was a tad too big I have now moved the ants into something more suitable. The queen is still living in her test tube with about 15 or 20 eggs and there are about 8 fully grown ants now that roam abuot and another 12 that just stay with the eggs and queen.

I want to know what you think of my new set up. It is just a large tupperware box lined with sand, some food and water and a small home that is available if the ants need it. The thing I am worried about is though, is that the ants never seem to be too interested in the dead cricket or the cotton wool with water/honey on, although they still seem alive so do you think they just do it when im away? Also will the ants bring water and food to the queen as there isnt really a way i can get anything in the test tube.

I also hoping that they may move into the new home i made as they are pavement ants so I figure that would be suitable for them.

(By the way the ants are tetramorium caespitum, so they are very tiny)

So would you say that this set up is ok?

thanks for any help :)

This farms seems fine for now.
Don't worry, the workers will feed the queen.
These are small ants so they do not need much food, it hard to see if they eat from the cricket ore not. Give them small pieces and refresh it 2-3 times a week (at least) If there are new workers and brood, that means you are doing a good job. ;)

I recommend you to slice the cricket. I believe the workers have their problems to "eat" it...
