Hello,
I'm planning to start a new antfarm with Messor barbarus. I do have some experience with ant keeping, however i like to know something more about hymidity regulation in vertical antfarms. In general it is advised to use a combination of a sand/loam mixture and granulate at the bottom of the antfarm. To ensure sufficient moist in the sand/loam layer i make use of a tube which is connected with the granulate layer and is frequently filled with water. However, how frequently is filling up the tube (and in what amount in "ml") necessary at room temperature and warmer conditions? And what is the best way to measure humidity conditions in the soil without destroying the nest? Can anybody give some good advise? Thanks!
