Congrats on the catch! Nuptial flights should be starting where I live very soon. It's pretty exciting as this is going to be my first colony. Wish me luck. :thumleft:

Thanks guys

and good luck to you to LukeyG21

i will have to buy a magnifying glass to identify her properly if you look in my photo album on this site you will be able to see a not so flash picture of another queen of the same species but you cant ID her from it hopefully i will be able to update that info soon

i checked last night on her and now she has 12 eggs

also i collected a few and now i have 5 queen with eggs how can i release them back into the wild as i dont need that many

my thoughts are to wait till here first workers come along and place the tube out side some place dark and just leave it there for them to make their move do you think this will be ok i dont want to hurt them

Congratulation ford-ute, i hope she will have workers soon. :)

About the other queens, yes you could release them back into the wild but only at the same place you captured them. Other wise you could disturb the eco-system.
Just place the tubes in a dark place and they will move out soon. Just hold on until one of them has workers so you have a nice colony. ;)

If people make jokes about your hobby that is just because they are to lazy to understand how imported insects ore to our world. Some friends off mine make jokes about it to, but if they visit my house they always want to take a look at them. ;)

Sure do that, release them in there natural environment. ;)

I don't think there are many Australian people over here, i'm sure much European people would like you ants but like you said, it would not be right to do this... sadly ;)

Yeah don't worry ford, people make jokes over here too, but it's like jimmy said, everyone still likes to look. Hardly anyone here keeps ants. I guess because of the laws about sending queens through the mail, people are too lazy to go out and get their own here. I wish that would change... :-k
