Beitragvon Biolog1 » 1. Jul 2007 21:18

Hello guys. I have some questions about Formica fusca... Today I saw this really beautiful ants a lot of times. I found a part of colony, under the rock. I think, these ants are very beautifull, and I decide, to want keep them. /I didn´t taked the ,,colony", which I found/. I newer had any experience with Formica species, but I readed here a lot, this is good for beginers. I have experience with Camponotus species/vagus, fallax/ and other, but with Formica no. I want to ask you, what they need to good live, good prosperity in formicarium. I know, than the Formical like to eat honeywater and insect, but about Formica no more. Can somebody help mee with?

hi biolog
i keep formica fusca myself, and yes they are quite a good ant to keep as they are fairly easy, this ant prefers to run than fight but is very nice to look at, i know that they can get quite big in size compared to lasius niger etc.
Formica fusca also eat honey and sugar water and like insects as they are quite strong ants it usually only takes one of them to pull back a fly
hope this has helped
