[i]Myrmica rubra[:i] is aggressive but i like them very much. this is a 2 year old colony. i started off with 1 queen en this year i added 2 young queens. Looks like they are doing just fine now.

you say right ,it more aggressive ant ,but I live in locality ,where is very ,very more Myrmica. My record of Myrmica hunting for 10 queens of Myrmica is 7 min 34 sec ,

You see on Photos (Kiam) ,Myrmica rubra is very hungry ant ,and you must to feed them every day - all flyes magots and more insects ,but you must getting it ,when is insect death ,no alive like you doing it Kiam!!!

They are in deed very hungry. This pictures where taking in one feeding time. i give them 3 caterpillar, 1 red runner and 1/2 Dubia, a bit of honey and a bit of sugar water.
Give it to them yesterday and tomorrow i need to feed them again.

They are very hungry little ladies, how many would you estimate there are in the colony Jimmy?
I would quite like Myrmica rubra for my second colony, but buy them with 50-100 workers as a kick start.

When i received this colony there where about 30 workers in it (i guess) now i think about 250.

They are eating lots of protein, must be plenty of larva to feed.
In your experience would you say Myrmica rubra reproduce quicker, similar or slower than lasius niger in like for like conditions?

In my experience they grow a little slower. There are in deed much larva.

Have you filled tablet / pill packets with honey water or do you buy them like that?
They look like quite a good size for the ants to drink from, plus they have a ledge to stand on, have any drowned?

Hi Sam,
It are just pill packets, empty ones that i fill myself with honey or sugar/water. In deed they are perfect because the ants can stand on the ledge.
This species don't drown in them, they are to big for it. But with some of my smaller species i sometimes find a ants that drowned in it.
