Hello!

I have had a sad event in my begginer's nest of Camponotus ligniperdus - one of my workers died and was thrown away by others on "trash bin".

It also happens that I have a possibility of making scanning electron beam microspocic pisctures, which I would like to do on my poor victim.
However, I have no experience in photography of ants, and I do not know if there are any particular interesting things that I could make a photos and share with them.

Please post me any ideas of particular images you would like to see here, and I will post them soon.

that is a very hard question.
The problem is that Camponotus ligniperdus is quite smooth and featureless relativley to many other ants. The workers do not have any very interesting features in perticiular. Or at least none I can think of that would need to be pictured by this method.

As far as I remember with scanning you can just get a picture from the outside of the ant?

I would find it very interesting to see the organs of the ant, but opening one of those up is really hard and even experienced people struggle with it.

Maybe somebody will have a suggestion but I can think of anything.

In principle there are methods to look inside living ant - laser confocal misroscopy would do the trick, as well as magnetic resonance - however I am not sure about resolution which ould be obtained there.
Anyhow I will have a look sonn and Will share some images.
