eating all the kids

I'm not sure if this is normal, if it is please tell me but my queen Crematogaster rogenhoferi queen won't stop eating her own eggs. She has layed small batches of them then moves them around and eats them. She might of kept a few but it is hard to tell, I have used tips given to me in the chat part of the forum to get her to lay the eggs but now she just eats them i was wondering if anyone can help. Also does anyone know how long it takes for a Crematogaster rogenhoferi egg to hatch into a worker. Thank you for replys. :tongue02:

hmm hello bigbibble,
i am not too sure, (there are others that can confirm this) but i assume this can be due to numerouse reasons, the fact she is not recieving the right nutrients from you, ie protien, this could simply be a dietry issue, or that she does not feel safe.
It would help for others (i am sure you will be asked) before we try to help, if you post a few more details about your set up and food etc, to give us an idea of her surroundings, thus enabling the correct advise to aid you.

do you disturb her allot? apart from inadequate nutriants, stressing a queen by disturbing her every day will cause her to eat her eggs/brood/etc

In deed, there are plenty of reasons why she would eat there own brood, queens need peace, enough humidity and a good temperature, maybe a little bit of food and a good home (farm/nest), but that will not guarantee she will stop eating the brood, sometimes there is just no explanation.

Here is a list of what she has:
She is in a 40x30x20 tank that she has only been in for a day but she spends her whole time in the tube at the end, should i take it out?
she has a 15cm branch with honey water on it.
a rock with honey water+ dried cricket.
she has a dish with a sponge in it that contains water. and she has a nother dead cricket plus some soft wood for nest building.
the floor is yellow loam.
I hope this helps your analysis of the problem :baby:

This helps allot. ;) So it seems she has everything se needs. Still she eats the brood, wel i see a few options now, She is not fertilized ore she is not strong enough to start a colony ore she just don't know how to do it. (happens sometimes, they just keep eating the brood until they die, why... i don't know)
