blimey whatta load of fuss about nothing. The local tv station headline, "EARTHQUAKE SHAKES BRITAIN" when the story is shown a reporter is stood looking rather solom next to a pile of about 9 bricks fallen from a chimney......

im sorry thier are far worse earthquakes in the world with critical consiquenses and life loss, this is a miniscule event that will indeed be the topic of all the main news this evening........ yawn yawn yawn

Typical for the media to blow things up ! ;) They always do that.

A few year ago there was a earthquake here in Belgium to, never felt a thing about it. I was a sleep, looks like they always happen at night. ;)

I agree with you darradar and Jummyve about the media making it a really big fuss about it, and yes there are alot more worse earthquakes in other countries but no news then lol.
Well maybe except wen earthquakes happen in America.

there was a earthquake at about 1 am it reached 5.2 on the ricter scale, and lasted for 10 seconds. it is the biggest one england has experienced in the last 25 years, but like you say the media do make things sound a lot worse than they really are.
but earth quakes are not caused by global warming messorus they are caused by the tectonic plates rubbing against each other and suddenly jumping causing the vibrations.

@ Messorus,

It can't be the global warming.. :p because earthquakes are about earth plates grinding at each other. ;) Or ground collapsing because the oil compagnies pump oil/gas and the holes collapse.

i live about 30 miles away from the epicentre of the quake and you do tend to wonder whats going on when your whole house shakes for about 10 seconds.
As for the news making a fuss about nothing,i don't agree, the news i saw was mainly just educating people on why they happen and what causes them.
Oh and also the bloke who's chimney fell through his roof and broke his pelvis might have wondered what all the fuss was about as well.

im not dismissing its affect on the local poeple, it was the local bullitins that i was refering too, with no explanation, good greif man i nor any of us here are that ignorant, im sure there's lots of damage cuased in some cases, and i certainly heard of no broken pelvis, or any other incurred injury, and that proves my point, which was the news "exaggerating" the whole affair....
