dried mealworm?

dried mealworm?

Beitragvon badman » 26. Okt 2007 11:16

I'm a bit concerned my ants went into hibernation with no 2nd gen workers. When/if they wake up ok, I'm going to try to get some protein into them. (herculeanus/ligniperda) I know they like fish flakes and dead insects, but what about dried mealworms? A shop nearby sells them as bird food.

I also tried giving them egg white, which they didn't touch, and I tried making ant jelly, which they also never went near.
Ideally I would get some live insects but I've been banned from keeping them by the Mrs

first gen herculaneus are unlikly to be able to deal with dried meal worms, not sure about ligniperda, no experience with them personally, however, by the time they come out of hibernation i'd expect the 2nd gen larvae to be pretty much ready to pupate

It is always better to give them 'fresh' food, dried food already lost a lot of his protein. But you can try it, if they accept it, its okay but give them also some fresh bugs.
